Very definately a worth while investment, first set of bearings on my then
new trailer lasted 4 months.Indespension's version of bearing buddies fitted on renewal and the bearings have now
lasted for 4 years! The ones on sale in UK are usually not 'genuine Bearing
Budies' but a metric copy. For example Autow sell the Kestrel ver fo £39
Bearing Buddies are protective covers that fit over a boat trailer's hub
and protect it from water and dirt. Bearings on boat trailers are more
susceptible to these two things because they are constantly immersed in water.
Having Bearing Buddies on your hubs all but eliminates the need for constant
repacking of the bearing. Over time, even Bearing Buddies will wear out and need
to be replaced. Replacing a ina Bearing Buddy
is neither difficult nor time-consuming.
Place a board against the old Bearing Buddy. Strike the board with a hammer
on one side of it. Place the board on the other side of it and strike it again.
Repeat these two steps and "walk" the Bearing Buddy off of your hub.Pull the old
Bearing Buddy off of the hub with your handPlace the new Bearing Buddy against
the hub and ensure it fits. Place a board over it and push it into place. It
should "walk" into place just like the old one was removed.
A Bearing Buddy is an automatic wheel-bearing greasing device designed to
make keeping the wheel fag bearings on your
trailer properly greased. This will increase the life of the bearings,
especially on trailers that see a lot of use in water or extreme weather
conditions. Bearing Buddy installs on the hub and allows you to add grease by
simply installing a grease gun on a zerk fitting and filling the hubs. This
works very well for boat trailers but can be used on any trailer to make wheel
bearing maintenance easier.
Select the proper size Bearing Buddy for your trailer hubs. If you are not
sure what size you need, consult an associate at your local trailer supply
store.Remove the dust cover from the hub and fill the hub with grease. Use a
flat screwdriver to pop the dust cover off.Align the Bearing Buddy with the hub
and place a piece of scrap wood against the face of it. Be sure the Bearing
Buddy is square to the hub when you align it.
Strike the wood with a hammer and drive the Bearing Buddy onto the hub. If
there is more than slight resistance, do not force it. If the Bearing Buddy is
not the correct size, forcing it on may destroy it.Attach a grease gun to the
zerk fitting in the center of the "Buddy bearings"
and fill it with high-quality wheel bearing grease. This tool has one of the
simplest designs yet most helpful attributes. It not only pushes your bearings
into the wheels but also pulls them out in one swift motion. The Bearing Buddy
does everything the Bearings Press does without all the weight & a fraction
of the price tag.
